From Faker to Maker - My journey in learning to code

"Coding itself can be used an instrument for social change"

Les Pounder September 17 2018

As I write this, it is just over 24 hours since I gave my first talk at PyCon UK (Python UK Conference) and in the past 24 hours I have received many great comments from those that were there, and those watching the video on YouTube.

If you are interested, here is the video where I explain how...

  • I learnt to code.
  • I use my experience to be empathic and help new users take their first steps.
  • Learning to FAIL is a key skill for a maker.
  • Coding helped me to overcome problems.
  • Coding can be used for social change.

I wanted to present the talk so that everyone can understand that anyone can code, but they don't have to be full time developers, they can be hobbyists that enjoy tinkering and creating new ideas just for fun! Learning to code can be a great tool to help learn logic skills and problem solving!

Here are the slides for reference.

Enjoy the video :)
